DaysofPal- The Global Sumud Flotilla has stated that Israeli forces have carried out systematic torture against detained activists, including a Spanish national of Palestinian Saif Abu Keshk, after their vessel was intercepted en route to Gaza.
In a statement released Sunday, the group said Abu Keshk and Brazilian activist Thiago Ávila were among 175 participants aboard more than 20 boats attempting to reach the Gaza Strip.
The flotilla was reportedly intercepted by Israeli forces in international waters west of the Greek island of Crete.
According to the statement, Israeli forces transferred the activists to a military vessel, where they were subjected to both physical and verbal abuse.
Testimonies from released detainees said that Abu Keshk, in particular, was isolated from other activists and subjected to mistreatment during his detention.
The flotilla organizers also reported that 36 activists were injured during the operation, with some requiring hospitalization in southern Crete.
The group described the interception as a dangerous escalation and a violation of international law, calling on the international community to intervene for the release of those still detained and to hold Israeli occupation accountable for the unlawful detention and abuse in international waters.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions surrounding Gaza and ongoing international scrutiny over access, humanitarian conditions, and maritime restrictions in the region.
