Israeli Violations in Gaza Reflect Netanyahu’s Intent to Undermine Ceasefire

DaysofPal — Political analysts said that the continued Israeli violations of the Gaza ceasefire agreement reflect the desire of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to derail the fragile truce that came into effect on October 10, 2025.

Israeli forces have continued to breach the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip since it entered into force, even after Steve Witkoff, a White House envoy, announced in mid-January 2026 the start of the agreement’s second phase.

The deal was brokered through Turkish and Arab mediation with backing from the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. Still, analysts say developments on the ground indicate Israel may be seeking to prevent the agreement from fully taking hold.

Political analyst Adel Yassin said the ongoing violations, coinciding with Israeli military operations involving Iran and Lebanon, reflect what he described as the aggressive mindset dominating the Israeli far-right government.

Speaking to the Palestinian newspaper of Palestine, Yassin argued that Israeli leadership relies on “killing and destruction” as tools to demonstrate regional dominance.

He added that Israeli policies send a message that it remains committed to the idea of displacement and aims to prevent residents of Gaza from experiencing any form of stability.

“These developments require the international community to apply real pressure on the Israeli occupation to deter it and compel it to respect agreements and implement their provisions,” Yassin said.

He also argued that the current Israeli government has no real intention of implementing the ceasefire and is actively seeking to undermine it.

Another political analyst, Ghassan Khatib, linked the rise in Israeli violations to the broader regional escalation involving Iran, noting that global attention has largely shifted to political and military developments across the Middle East.

According to Khatib, the Israeli occupation may be using the situation to intensify its actions against Palestinians, not only in Gaza but also in the West Bank.

He said the escalation has coincided with rising casualties in Gaza and increased Israeli crimes in the West Bank, including land confiscations and settlement expansion.

Khatib also suggested that Netanyahu is reluctant to proceed with the second phase of the ceasefire agreement while the first phase is only partially implemented.

Israeli forces, he noted, continue to maintain military control over more than half of the coastal enclave. At the same time, key commitments—such as reopening Gaza’s crossings, allowing aid deliveries, and beginning reconstruction—have yet to be fully implemented.

The Israeli occupation launched its genocidal war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023. Over the course of nearly two years, the war has resulted in extensive destruction and heavy civilian casualties. According to official figures cited in the report, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 170,000 injured since the start of the Israeli genocidal war.

Khatib warned that Netanyahu may be attempting to transform what were meant to be temporary arrangements in Gaza into long-term realities that prolong Israeli control over parts of the territory.

He added that addressing the situation will require coordinated diplomatic pressure, greater political unity among Palestinian factions, and cooperation with Arab countries and the Palestinian Authority to confront evolving regional dynamics.
