DaysofPal- Eighty countries and international organizations jointly condemned Israeli unilateral measures in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, rejecting any form of annexation and warning that such actions undermine prospects for peace.
Speaking at a press conference at the United Nations headquarters, Riyad Mansour, Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the UN, read a statement on behalf of the signatories denouncing decisions aimed at expanding the Israeli presence in the territory.
The statement said the measures violate the Israeli obligations under international law and called for their immediate reversal, expressing firm opposition to any attempts at annexation.
It also reiterated rejection of all actions intended to alter the demographic composition, character, or legal status of Palestinian land occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem.
According to the signatories, such policies breach international law, threaten regional stability, and undermine ongoing efforts to achieve a comprehensive peace agreement.
The declaration warned that continued unilateral steps could further diminish the chances of ending the decades-long conflict.
The countries and organizations reaffirmed their commitment, as outlined in the New York Declaration, to take concrete measures in line with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
They also cited the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice on July 19, 2024, supporting the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and opposing settlement expansion in occupied territory, including East Jerusalem.
In addition, the statement condemned policies and threats of forced displacement and annexation, urging accountability for actions that violate international norms.
It emphasized that achieving a just and lasting peace requires adherence to UN resolutions and established peace frameworks, including the land-for-peace principle, the Arab Peace Initiative, and implementation of a two-state solution to end the occupation that began in 1967.
