DaysofPal- The Hamas Movement has confirmed its readiness to work with mediators and guarantor states to locate the remains of the last Israeli captive in Gaza, amid accusations that the Israeli occupation is exploiting the uncertainty over the captive’s fate to delay obligations under the Gaza ceasefire.
In a statement on Wednesday, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said the movement is keeping mediators fully informed of its efforts, in coordination with Palestinian resistance factions, to recover the body of the final Israeli prisoner in Gaza.
“We are prepared to cooperate with mediators and guarantor countries in any initiative that leads to locating the remains of the last captive,” Qassem said.
He also said that the Israeli occupation is deliberately using the absence of the captive’s remains to evade commitments outlined in the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States has information on the location of the last Israeli captive in Gaza, adding, “We believe we can find him.”
The issue of the last soldier’s remains has also been tied to the Israeli continued closure of the Rafah border crossing, as the occupation reportedly uses the situation to delay the implementation of ceasefire obligations.
