DaysofPal- Georgetown University has removed UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories Francesca Albanese from its research records, effectively ending an academic association that had spanned several years, according to a report published on Friday.
The move, which took effect in December 2025, followed a sustained pressure campaign by UN Watch, an advocacy group widely regarded as aligned with the Israeli occupation.
The organization announced the decision on its official platforms and publicly praised the university’s action.
Albanese sharply criticized the decision, accusing academic institutions of yielding to political pressure. She described the removal as a “betrayal” and said the campaign against her was intended to “silence the truth.”
The UN rapporteur has been the target of persistent criticism from Israeli officials and pro-Israel groups due to her outspoken condemnation of the Israeli genocidal war in Gaza, which she has described as genocidal. She has also publicly named countries she says have enabled or supported the war.
According to the report, Albanese has additionally faced sanctions imposed by the administration of former US President Donald Trump, following UN reports in which she argued that Israeli actions in Gaza amount to genocide and accused the United States and other countries of complicity.
Georgetown University has not issued a detailed public explanation for the decision, and it remains unclear whether the move reflects a broader institutional policy or was taken specifically in relation to Albanese.
