DaysofPal- The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday that 1092 Palestinian patients in Gaza have died while waiting to be medically evacuated over the past year and a half.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that 1,092 patients died while awaiting medical evacuation between July 2024 and November 2025, warning that this figure “is likely an underestimation of the real number” as a result of the Israeli suffocating siege on the Gaza Strip.
Tedros said that since October 2023, the WHO and its partners have managed to evacuate more than 10,600 patients with serious medical conditions from Gaza, including over 5,600 children in need of intensive care.
He appealed to more countries to receive patients from Gaza and called for the resumption of medical evacuations to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, stressing that the survival of some patients depends on timely access to treatment.
The WHO has previously reported that more than 15,600 patients and wounded people in the Gaza Strip urgently require medical evacuation for treatment outside the territory.
The agency added that the health system in Gaza is near-total collapse under the ongoing Israeli genocidal war, which is now stretching into its third year.
