DaysofPal- Israeli media have reported a sharp increase in suicide cases among Israeli soldiers since the beginning of the Israeli genocide against the Gaza Strip.
According to figures published on Friday, 61 Israeli soldiers have taken their own lives since the war on Gaza began in October 2023.
The Hebrew daily Haaretz said the spike in suicides is linked to the severe psychological pressures and complex challenges that came as a result of the atrocities the Israeli forces have committed during the Gaza genocidal war.
Moreover, Israeli sources had previously reported, based on military investigations, that 16 soldiers died by suicide since the start of 2025, describing these cases as part of the continuing psychological fallout of the Gaza genocidal war.
Reports indicate that the main drivers behind these suicides include intense psychological stress related to combat operations, the crimes these soldiers have committed, exposure to horrific scenes, the loss of comrades, and the difficulty of coping with the long-term mental effects of the war.
A senior Israeli military official was quoted as saying that most suicide cases are linked to the complex reality that emerged after the war, and the harsh consequences soldiers are facing in their daily lives.
The Israeli occupation forces have been committing a genocide against people in Gaza, which has left over 70000 civilians killed and over 200 thousand injured since 7 October 2023.
