DaysofPal- The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) said the famine conditions in Gaza got some eased, but over 100 thousand civilians are still facing catastrophic hunger out of the miserable situation resulting from the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza.
IPC added that improved access for humanitarian and commercial food supplies following a fragile ceasefire on 10 October had helped pull Gaza back from full-blown famine.
In an assessment released on Friday, the global hunger monitoring body has warned that more than 100,000 people remain in catastrophic food insecurity, with the overall humanitarian situation still described as “critical.”
The update comes four months after the IPC estimated that about 514,000 people, nearly a quarter of Gaza’s population, were facing famine conditions.
While the situation has improved since then, the agency cautioned that the territory remains extremely fragile.
“Under a worst-case scenario, including renewed hostilities and a suspension of humanitarian and commercial inflows, the entire Gaza Strip is at risk of famine through mid-April 2026,” the IPC warned, underscoring the severity of the crisis as the Israeli occupation maintains control over all entry points into Gaza.
The report estimates that more than 100,000 people are currently experiencing catastrophic levels of hunger, though that figure could drop to around 1,900 by April 2026 if current access and supply conditions are maintained.
Even so, the IPC classifies the whole of Gaza as being in an “emergency” phase of food insecurity, one step below catastrophe and famine.
The agency highlighted particularly grave risks for children and women, noting that nearly 101,000 children aged six to 59 months are expected to suffer acute malnutrition over the next year, including more than 31,000 severe cases requiring treatment.
The IPC added that over the same period, around 37,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women are projected to face acute malnutrition, warning that sustained assistance and unhindered access are essential to prevent a renewed slide into famine.
