DaysofPal- The United Nations General Assembly voted late Tuesday in overwhelming support of a resolution calling for Israeli withdrawal from all Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including Jerusalem, and affirming the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state.
The resolution also calls for a just solution to the Palestinian refugee issue in accordance with Resolution 194.
A total of 151 countries voted in favor, while 11 opposed and 11 abstained.
The draft resolution was submitted by Palestine, Jordan, Djibouti, Senegal, Qatar, and Mauritania, under agenda item 35 of the General Assembly’s 80th session.
The General Assembly reaffirmed the UN’s permanent responsibility toward the Question of Palestine until it is resolved in all its aspects in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
It emphasized that achieving a just, lasting, and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue, the core of the Arab–Israeli conflict, is essential for securing genuine and enduring peace and stability in the Middle East.
The resolution also underscored the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, as enshrined in the UN Charter.
Member states were urged to fully adhere to international law, protect civilian lives, prevent further escalation, refrain from provocative actions or rhetoric, and work toward creating a stable environment conducive to peace.
