DaysofPal- Israeli forces have killed nearly two Palestinian children a day in the Gaza Strip since a ceasefire took effect in early October, the UN children’s agency said on Friday, warning that the toll continues to rise even under the truce.
Since October 11, at least 67 children have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza and dozens more injured, UNICEF spokesperson Ricardo Pires told reporters in Geneva. “These are not statistics,” he said.
“Each child had a story, a family, and a future that was stolen from them.” He added.
UNICEF said its teams have repeatedly witnessed distressing scenes across the enclave: children sleeping outdoors with amputations, others newly orphaned and sheltering in flooded, makeshift structures.
“There is no safe place for them,” Pires said, adding that the UN could “do a lot more if the aid that is really needed was entering faster.” It continued.
The agency cautioned that winter will sharply increase risks for hundreds of thousands of displaced children, acting as a “threat multiplier” in settings without heating, insulation, or sufficient blankets and where respiratory infections are already on the rise.
“Too many children have already paid the highest price, even under a ceasefire,” Pires said, adding that , “The world promised them it would stop. Now we must act like it.”
Palestinian factions, human rights groups, and local authorities have documented numerous Israeli attacks since the US-brokered truce began on October 10, describing each as a ceasefire violation.
Save the Children has previously estimated that at least 20,000 children have been killed in Gaza since the Israeli genocidal war started in October 2023.
Overall, nearly 70,000 people have been killed and more than 170,000 injured in Gaza during the Israeli genocide, according to Gaza health authorities.
