DaysofPal – Israel’s renewed airstrikes on Gaza, which killed over 100 Palestinians, including at least 35 children, have been denounced by Save the Children as a catastrophic violation of the ceasefire agreement.
“After some weeks of cautious optimism and hopes of rebuilding Gaza, children and families are once again reliving scenes of fear and loss,” said Ahmad Alhendawi, Save the Children’s regional director for the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe.
“This cannot become the new normal under a ceasefire. A lasting ceasefire must mean safety, relief, and recovery for children, not continued suffering.”
Alhendawi urged all parties to uphold the truce, adding, “We are pleading: stop this now. Protect the ceasefire, protect children, and give Gaza’s families a step towards the genuine peace they have been waiting for.”
The latest Israeli raids began early Wednesday morning, striking multiple areas across the Gaza Strip and killing more than 100 people in less than 12 hours, according to local health authorities.
The attacks mark one of the deadliest escalations since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, drawing widespread condemnation for what observers describe as a serious violation of the truce.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) also voiced alarm over the deteriorating situation, calling it “shocking” and warning that nearly one million children in Gaza are living in conditions that threaten their survival.
In a report issued on Sunday, UNICEF described an “unprecedented humanitarian crisis,” with children enduring hunger, trauma, and displacement amid the rubble of their destroyed homes.
“The tragic numbers of child victims highlight the urgent need to open all crossings and ensure the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid,” said Adele Khodr, UNICEF’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa.
