DaysofPal – The Hamas Movement Hamas has condemned what it described as “the harshest forms of sadism and fascism in the modern era” taking place inside Israeli prisons, as freed detainees detailed the psychological and physical torture they endured during two years of captivity.
In a statement released on Monday, the group congratulated the recently freed prisoners, their families, and the Palestinian people, calling the mass release “a national achievement and a shining milestone in our struggle for freedom and liberation.”
“Our freed prisoners revealed the ugliest forms of psychological and physical torture they were subjected to over the course of two full years, in a scene that embodies the harshest forms of sadism and fascism in the modern era,” Hamas said.
The movement urged international human rights and humanitarian organizations to act immediately to end what it described as Israel’s “systematic crimes against prisoners.”
Hamas hailed what it called the Flood of the Free as a “historic national achievement” that reflects Palestinian unity and steadfastness in the face of Israeli occupation. The group said the event demonstrated that “resistance and adherence to the land and national rights” remain the path toward liberation, return, and statehood.
“The overwhelming joy of the families of the liberated prisoners in the proud Gaza Strip and the proud West Bank fills hearts and floods homes and courtyards, despite the pain and severity of the wounds,” Hamas said, adding that the moment was “an expression of the strength and resilience of our people, which cannot be broken by the enemy’s crimes.”
The movement lashed out at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his far-right allies, accusing them of attempting to suppress Palestinian joy over the prisoners’ release. “The war criminal Netanyahu and his extremist gang, and those behind them like Ben-Gvir and Smotrich, cannot take away our people’s joy over the resistance’s achievement in the Flood of the Free, which was baptized with blood and sacrifices,” Hamas stated.
Reaffirming that the liberation of detainees remains at the heart of its priorities, Hamas said it had fulfilled its promise to free the prisoners, calling the event “an important milestone in an ongoing process leading to the comprehensive liberation of the land and holy sites.”
The group contrasted the treatment of Israeli captives by Palestinian fighters with Israel’s treatment of Palestinian prisoners.
“The resistance treated the enemy’s prisoners in accordance with its Islamic, national, and civilizational values, preserving their lives despite the dangers,” it said. “Meanwhile, the criminal occupation army persists daily in humiliating and torturing our heroic prisoners in its prisons.”
Hamas concluded its statement by vowing to continue its struggle until every Palestinian prisoner is freed and full national liberation is achieved.
