DaysofPal- A 22-year-old Palestinian detainee from the town of Adh-Dhahiriya, south of Hebron, has died under torture in Israeli custody.
The Palestinian Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs identified the victim as Ahmad Hatem Mohammad Khdeirat, who had been held in administrative detention, imprisonment without charge or trial, since May 23, 2024.
According to the commission, Khdeirat suffered from diabetes and had been denied both adequate medical care and proper nutrition during his time in detention, and he was exposed to torture in prison, which deteriorated his health sharply.
He lost significant weight and developed scabies, a contagious skin disease that rights groups say has spread widely among prisoners due to overcrowded and unsanitary conditions in Israeli prisons.
“He died because of deliberate medical negligence,” the commission said in a statement. “Israel bears full responsibility for his death.” Rights group added.
Khdeirat’s death marks the 78th Palestinian to die in Israeli custody since October 7, 2023, when the Israeli occupation launched its ongoing genocidal war against Gaza and intensified arrests across the occupied West Bank.
Since the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza in 1967, at least 315 Palestinians have died in Israeli prisons, according to official Palestinian figures.
Human rights organizations, including Addameer and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society, have long accused the Israeli occupation of systematic mistreatment of detainees, including the denial of medical care, psychological abuse, and torture.
They report that as of October 2025, more than 11,000 Palestinians are being held in Israeli prisons, including over 3,500 under administrative detention orders.
Administrative detention allows the Israeli occupation to hold individuals indefinitely without formal charges, based on secret evidence that is not disclosed to the detainee or their lawyer, a practice widely condemned by the United Nations and international human rights groups.
