DaysofPal- Taher al-Nounou, media adviser to Hamas political chief, said the mass walkout of diplomats during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address at the UN General Assembly was a clear sign of Israeli growing isolation and a direct outcome of the Israeli “genocidal war” on Gaza.
In a statement issued Friday, al-Nounou mocked Netanyahu for “forcing his delegation to clap and whistle” during the speech, calling it an act of “megalomania.”
He insisted that Netanyahu’s rightful place was “in prison as a war criminal, not on the UN podium.”
Al-Nounou urged world leaders to adopt what he called the only ethical and humanitarian position, ending the war in Gaza and holding the Israeli occupation accountable for its actions.
He also stressed that a Palestinian state would inevitably emerge through Palestinian, Arab, and international willpower, “despite Netanyahu’s attempts to deny it.”
The boycott came as live broadcasts showed delegations from multiple countries leaving the hall even before Netanyahu began his remarks.
The Israeli war criminal, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court on war crimes charges, addressed a largely empty chamber.
This year’s UN session has seen unprecedented expressions of support for the Palestinian cause, peaking with recognition of Palestinian statehood by several countries long considered among Israeli closest allies, a move described by Palestinian officials as a diplomatic setback for the Israeli occupation.
Observers said the coordinated walkout was meant to send a clear message to Netanyahu’s government: that the international community will not be complicit in alleged war crimes, collective punishment, or the prolonged occupation.
