DaysofPal – Medical sources at Al-Shifa Hospital said on Saturday that several members of the family of hospital director Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya were killed when Israeli warplanes bombed their home in the Al-Shati refugee camp, west of Gaza City.
According to the sources, the attack left four dead, including Dr. Abu Salmiya’s brother and two of his sons. The bodies were later transferred to Al-Shifa Hospital, where video footage showed the grieving director bidding farewell to his loved ones.
The strike was part of a broader Israeli escalation across the Gaza Strip. Since the early hours of Saturday, 44 Palestinians have been killed in airstrikes and shelling, with at least 38 deaths in Gaza City alone.
Medical sources reported that nine members of the Al-Jamla family were killed in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City, most of them children. In the central Gaza Strip, one Palestinian was killed and ten others injured east of the Al-Nuseirat refugee camp. South of the Strip, a Palestinian was killed and several injured by Israeli gunfire as they waited for aid near Rafah.
The Israeli army has concentrated its assault on Gaza City, announcing it is carrying out Operation Gideon 2 with the aim of uprooting the city. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly ordered the military to render Gaza City uninhabitable, with strikes targeting homes, public facilities, and densely populated neighborhoods.
Witnesses said airstrikes resumed at dawn on Tal al-Hawa and al-Sabra, southwest of Gaza City. Explosions ripped through residential areas, while Israeli forces detonated ten explosive-laden vehicles in Tal al-Hawa, adding to the devastation.
Municipal officials said the city’s basic services and infrastructure are on the verge of collapse, while hundreds of thousands of displaced people remain stranded without adequate food, water, or medical care.
