DaysofPal- A senior Hamas official has stated that the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has deliberately undermined efforts to reach a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal, following the Israeli attempt to assassinate its negotiating delegation in Doha last week.
Tahir al-Nono, media advisor to the head of Hamas’ political bureau, said on Sunday that the attack on the Hamas delegation “proves that Netanyahu does not care about the lives of Israeli prisoners.”
“We will not be more concerned than Netanyahu about Israeli prisoners,” al-Nono added, warning that prisoners could be among those targeted as Israel escalates its offensive in Gaza City.
He argued that Netanyahu has “destroyed any chance of reaching an agreement,” stressing that the only path forward lies in an internationally enforced decision to stop the war.
Al-Nono also criticized recent U.S. statements, calling them “a green light for Netanyahu to expand his campaign of violence anywhere in the world.”
Last Tuesday, Hamas said the Israeli strike on its Doha-based delegation failed, describing it as “a heinous crime and a blatant violation of Qatari sovereignty and international law.”
The group added that the incident demonstrates the Israeli intent to sabotage negotiations aimed at achieving a ceasefire and prisoner swap.
The Israeli genocide, now in its 710th day, has left 64,871 Palestinians dead and 164,610 injured since October 7, 2023, according to health authorities in Gaza.
Most of the casualties are women and children. In contrast, the Israeli war has also displaced hundreds of thousands of civilians, while famine conditions have led to at least 422 deaths, including 145 children.
