Iran has announced that at least 935 people were killed during the recent 12-day war with Israel, according to judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir.
Speaking to local media, Jahangir said the latest forensic data confirms the deaths of hundreds, including 132 women and 38 children, calling them “martyrs of the Zionist regime’s aggression.” Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency published his comments.
The conflict erupted after months of rising tensions, eventually boiling over into open warfare. While Israel has not officially acknowledged the full scope of its military operations inside Iranian territory, it claimed it was responding to what it called an “unprecedented threat” posed by Iran’s regional activities and missile capabilities.
Iran, meanwhile, has framed the war as a direct attack on its sovereignty and people. Large-scale funerals and mourning ceremonies have been held across major cities, with state media showing crowds calling for international accountability.
Regional and Global Concern
The war between Israel and Iran marks a major escalation in a region already on edge. The violence has raised fears of a broader conflict, especially given the strategic alliances on both sides—Iran with groups like Hezbollah and regional partners, and Israel backed strongly by the United States.
Human rights organizations have called for independent investigations into civilian casualties. “The numbers out of Iran are shocking, and if confirmed, they represent a grave humanitarian crisis,” one UN official said on condition of anonymity.
While fighting has stopped for now, the humanitarian toll is only beginning to come into focus. Hospitals are overwhelmed, infrastructure has been damaged, and thousands have been displaced.
As the world watches what could become a defining chapter in Middle Eastern geopolitics, the families of the 935 victims are left mourning amid ruins.
