The Palestinian Ministry of Health has issued an urgent warning about a dramatic acceleration in drug shortages across the Gaza Strip, as Israel continues to enforce a complete blockade and prevent all humanitarian aid from entering the territory since early March.
In a statement released Sunday, the ministry said that 43% of essential medications are now entirely depleted—marking a 6% increase from the previous month.
According to the ministry, emergency rooms, operating theaters, and intensive care units are functioning with critically exhausted supplies amid a surge in life-threatening injuries.
The crisis has hit patients with chronic and life-threatening conditions the hardest, including those suffering from kidney failure, cancer, blood disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and other non-communicable illnesses.
The ministry warned of catastrophic consequences if urgent medical supplies are not allowed in, emphasizing that health care services are on the verge of total collapse.
Since March 2, Israeli occupation authorities have intensified their siege on Gaza, barring all forms of humanitarian, medical, food, and fuel aid, along with any other essential supplies that sustain life in the besieged enclave.
This blockade follows a months-long campaign of destruction that began on October 7, 2023, when Israel launched its military assault on Gaza.
According to the health ministry, Israeli forces have repeatedly bombed, besieged, and stormed hospitals, killing medical staff, patients, and displaced civilians sheltering inside, while arresting others.
The Israeli military continues to block vital medical supplies, including medications, equipment, and fuel required to power hospitals and support the shattered health care infrastructure across the war-torn region.
