GAZA CITY — Israel has killed one Palestinian woman every hour since the start of its assault on Gaza on October 7, 2023, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor, which accused Israel of systematically targeting women as part of a genocidal campaign to erase the Palestinian population.
In a statement, the organization clarified that this grim statistic includes only those women killed by direct airstrikes and shelling—not the many who died due to starvation, siege-related illnesses, or lack of access to basic medical care.
Field data reveals a disturbing pattern, indicating deliberate attacks on pregnant women and young mothers with their children. The group warned that such targeted killings directly threaten the demographic future of the Palestinian people.
The humanitarian situation for pregnant women has become especially dire. The rights group reported that around 60,000 pregnant women in Gaza are suffering under extreme conditions due to widespread hunger and malnutrition caused by Israel’s total blockade.
It emphasized that the targeting of pregnant women appears to be intentional, describing it as a form of “forced birth prevention”—a recognized act under the legal definition of genocide.
The organization called on the international community to fulfill its legal obligations, urging immediate intervention to stop what it described as Israel’s “ongoing genocide” against Gaza’s civilian population.
As of the 56th day since Israel resumed its offensive, the Israeli military continues to carry out widespread strikes across Gaza. According to the latest update from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the renewed bombardment has killed 270 people and wounded 7,513 others in just the past day.
