Syrian Locals Clash with Israeli Forces Invading Southern Syria

DayofPal-Intense confrontations erupted between Israeli forces and local fighters in the Hauran region of the Daraa countryside, southern Syria, following an incursion by Israeli troops into Syrian territory.

The clashes marked a significant escalation along the border, further heightening tensions in the already volatile region.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that an Israeli airstrike targeted the vicinity of the Scientific Research Building in the Barzeh neighborhood of Damascus on Wednesday.

The same wave of attacks also struck Hama Military Airport, with Israeli warplanes unleashing more than ten airstrikes on the facility.

The bombardment resulted in multiple casualties among both military personnel and civilians, though the full extent of the losses remains unclear.

In a parallel development, Israeli artillery and tank units shelled Tell Al-Jomou, a strategically significant hill in western Daraa, on Wednesday evening.

The attack followed an Israeli ground incursion near Nawa city, prompting widespread calls for local mobilization. Reports confirmed that at least eight artillery shells struck Jubailiya Forest, approximately ten kilometers from Nawa.

Following the assault, Israeli forces altered their movement trajectory, advancing toward Tasil Dam instead of pressing further into the forested region.

Despite the intensity of the shelling, no casualties or property damage were immediately reported. Israeli drones were also spotted conducting aerial surveillance over the area, reinforcing concerns over escalating military maneuvers near Syria’s border with the occupied Golan Heights.

On Wednesday evening, an Israeli military convoy entered Tell Al-Ahmar Al-Gharbi in the Quneitra countryside, advancing from the occupied Golan Heights via a newly constructed road.

The road, reportedly built by Israeli forces as part of their broader territorial expansion strategy, has raised alarm over the increasing frequency of incursions into rural areas of Daraa and Quneitra provinces in recent months.

Tell Al-Jomou, a hill that rises 200 meters above the surrounding terrain, holds immense strategic and military value. Its vantage point allows for oversight of Sheikh Maskin in central Daraa to the east and Wadi Al-Yarmouk to the south.

Given its intelligence and defense significance, Israeli forces have repeatedly targeted the site in past military campaigns.

Adding to the mounting tensions, Israeli troops fired a flare bomb over Koya village in the Yarmouk Basin, western Daraa. Local sources confirmed that the illumination projectile was launched from an Israeli outpost in Maaria village, reinforcing suspicions of further Israeli military attacks in the region.

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a scathing condemnation of Israel’s latest offensive, denouncing the strikes as a flagrant violation of international law and Syrian sovereignty.

The ministry reported that within a span of 30 minutes, Israeli airstrikes targeted five different locations, inflicting severe destruction, including the total obliteration of Hama Military Airport. In addition to significant infrastructure damage, multiple civilians and soldiers sustained injuries.

In its official statement, the Syrian government accused Israel of deliberately destabilizing the country, obstructing post-war reconstruction efforts, and exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.

Damascus called upon the international community to intervene, urging immediate pressure on Israel to cease its military operations. The statement also implored the United Nations to take decisive action in curbing further violations and safeguarding Syria’s territorial integrity.

With Israeli incursions becoming increasingly routine, fears of a full-scale military escalation loom over the region, leaving residents bracing for the possibility of prolonged wars.
