DaysofPal- Eight far-right members of Israel’s Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee have issued a contentious demand to Defence Minister Israel Katz, calling for an intensification of military actions in Gaza.
Their proposal, which has drawn widespread condemnation, includes the destruction of essential resources in northern Gaza, including water, food, and power supplies.
This drastic proposal would lead to the starvation of thousands of Palestinians, as the lawmakers argued that the Israeli military had not effectively dismantled Hamas’ control or governance in the region.
The lawmakers, who belong to the ruling Likud party and its coalition allies, including Religious Zionism, Jewish Power, and Shas, further suggested that any individual remaining in northern Gaza without a white flag should be treated as a legitimate target for killing.
They criticized the Israeli army for not expelling Palestinians from the area “properly,” with tens of thousands of civilians in the northern Gaza Strip already without shelter and suffering from hunger.
Their letter calls for a complete blockade, the destruction of essential infrastructure, and what they described as a “complete cleansing” of the region. The MPs also argued that these measures should be applied across Gaza.
The proposal aligns with the controversial “Generals’ Plan,” which advocates for labeling all civilians in northern Gaza as military targets while cutting off essential supplies. Despite widespread condemnation from human rights organizations, aspects of the plan have already been implemented.
The escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza is dire. The health system in the northern part of the territory has completely collapsed, with the last partially functioning hospital, the Indonesian Hospital, struggling to operate without power or water.
Gaza’s residents are being forced to flee south, often under brutal conditions, with reports of the Israeli military preventing them from taking personal belongings, even in freezing temperatures. The toll of these conditions is tragically evident, with six infants and an adult reported to have died of hypothermia in the past week.
International bodies, including the United Nations, have condemned Israel’s actions as collective punishment, with experts warning that they constitute violations of international law.
Humanitarian organizations have condemned the Israeli tactics, claiming they are part of a larger campaign of ethnic cleansing, the situation in Gaza continues to degenerate into a catastrophic crisis, and the International Criminal Court is looking into war crimes charges against Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
