DaysofPal- The situation at Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza has reached a critical point, with the facility under intense attack and siege by Israeli forces.
Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the hospital’s director, reports that last night was one of the most harrowing nights for the hospital and its surroundings.
In a press statement on Wednesday, Dr. Abu Safiya reported that Israeli soldiers detonated approximately ten robots near the hospital, causing extensive destruction to doors, internal barriers, windows, and some walls. Adding to the chaos, F-16 planes began bombing houses adjacent to the hospital around 1:30 a.m., instilling panic among patients and displaced individuals seeking refuge.
“Until now, we are besieged inside the hospital and cannot leave to the yards or move to the neighboring buildings. The situation is hazardous,” Dr. Abu Safiya stated.
Despite repeated calls to the international community for immediate intervention, no assistance has been received. “The situation is still terrifying. Unfortunately, the situation has become unbearable,” he said, urging for urgent action to protect healthcare workers and patients.
The assault on Kamal Adwan Hospital is part of a larger pattern of attacks on healthcare facilities in Gaza. Over the past 75 days, the Israeli army has reportedly killed 17 medical personnel from the hospital, injured over 50 others, and arrested 46 individuals from the hospital grounds. As one of northern Gaza’s last semi-functioning medical facilities, Kamal Adwan Hospital serves as a crucial lifeline for the remaining population.
“I don’t know why we are being bombed in this way. It is clear that the bombing was done with the aim of killing, based on the level of fire on the walls,” Dr Abu Safiya said, likening the attacks to a war zone. “This is a dangerous matter, and we have asked the world, and are still asking, for international protection.”
The ongoing siege in northern Gaza, part of what has been described as “The General’s Plan,” has forced mass displacement. An estimated 200,000 inhabitants of the region have been driven south toward Gaza City since October, with only a few thousand remaining in the north under dire conditions.
Dr. Abu Safiya and his dedicated staff remain resolute in their commitment to providing care, vowing to stay “when the last Palestinian leaves the northern Gaza Strip.” However, without immediate international intervention, the future of this vital medical facility and its patients hangs precariously in the balance.
