DayofPal- The Kamal Adwan Hospital, the sole partially functioning hospital in besieged northern Gaza, came under attack last night when the Israeli military surrounded the hospital and directly fired shells at the building, causing severe damage to the ICU and the emergency department.
Medical staff inside Kamal Adwan Hospital confirmed that the Israeli military stormed the hospital and ordered staff, patients, and the wounded to leave the building.
Wounded patients and those with other health complications were dragged outside the buildings into the courtyard of the hospital. Many of them need to be attached to IVs and are on medical beds inside the hospital; thus, a number of babies and children inside the hospital were killed because of lack of oxygen.
Dr Hussam Abu Safia, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, said the situation at the hospital is catastrophic and there is no medical care available for anyone in northern Gaza. Many of the wounded are scattered on the streets of Jabalia and Beit Lahiya and are unable to reach the hospital due to the ongoing bombardment.
“What is happening in the hospital is a crime and genocide against the Palestinian people,” he said.
The Israeli army bombed the hospital’s oxygen station, threatening the lives of 15 patients in the intensive care unit, including children. There is also preliminary information that several children have already died from the oxygen shortage.
Communication is completely cut off in the hospital in light of the danger to everyone’s lives. The hospital was stormed a few hours after the arrival of an international delegation carrying a limited amount of medicine and fuel supplies.
Meanwhile, medical sources said that Israeli forces are conducting mass arrests of men inside Kamal Adwan Hospital and leading them to an unknown area for interrogation.
Three hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip, including Kamal Adwan, have been subject to an oppressive Israeli siege for the past three weeks. The continuous Israeli attacks have caused the other two, the Indonesian hospital and the al-Awda hospital, to shut down in recent days.
Israel has killed more than 42,500 people in Gaza since a cross-border incursion by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023, turned much of the enclave into rubble and displaced most of its population.
