DayofPal– The Israeli army has stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza, compelling patients and staff to gather in the main courtyard, and started to separate them, on Friday.
Currently, over 150 people, including staff, patients and activists, find themselves trapped within the hospital’s walls.
The director of Kamal Adwan Hospital informed Al Jazeera that the relentless Israeli bombardment surrounding the medical facility has left several patients’ room windows shattered.
Activist Abboud Battah, 18, along with journalist Osama Al-Darini, were abducted by the Israeli army from inside Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza.
The attack on the Kamal Adwan hospital was launched around 2am local time, shortly after a World Health Organisation delegation left the hospital.
It began with air strikes targeting the hospital and its courtyards, including the medical oxygen generator.
Earlier, Israeli tanks had shelled the medical facility and the army later bombed the “oxygen station” at Kamal Adwan, reportedly killing a “number of children”.
A spokesman for Gaza’s Civil Defence also confirmed that over 150 patients and staff are trapped within the hospital’s confines.
Hussam Abu Safiya, the hospital director, issued a stark warning earlier this week stressing that the facility could turn into a mass grave, with one patient dying every hour due to the Israeli military siege.
After today’s raid, Abu Safiya lamented, “We anticipated humanitarian aid, but instead, all we received were Israeli tanks.”
Munir Al-Borsh, the General Director of the Health Ministry in Gaza, further confirmed the tragedy, revealing that several children lost their lives at Kamal Adwan Hospital following an Israeli strike on the oxygen station.
He stated, “The blockade on Kamal Adwan has led to the deaths of wounded patients who were unable to reach the facility. The Israeli occupation is intensifying its assault on the health system in northern Gaza, all while the world remains silent.”
The Kamal Adwan Hospital stands as one of the last operational medical facilities in northern Gaza, enduring a deadly Israeli siege and assault now entering its third week.
