A new investigation by Al Jazeera’s Sanad agency has shown that the Israeli air raid targeting displaced civilians in Gaza’s humanitarian zone in Al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis, was carried out using MK-84 bombs, each weighed 2,000 pounds.
Several Israeli missiles struck at 12:34am local time a refugee camp in the Al-Mawasi area, located within the humanitarian zone designated by the Israeli army for displaced civilians.
The Israeli three-rocket attack caused flat-out damage to about 20 tents, homes, and facilities in the area, according to Gaza Government Media Office.
Al-Mawasi massacre resulted in more than 40 deaths, 60 injuries, and many missing, raising the death toll of unidentified genocide victims.
Photos from the bombed site revealed large-scale devastation, with craters 10 to 15 metres (33 – 49 feet) deep, burying dozens of tents and families inside them underneath the sand.
Civil defence teams faced immense challenges retrieving the bodies of the dead and injured, with rescue operations continuing into the next morning.
