DaysofPal- A Palestinian fisherman was killed and another seriously injured on Sunday after Israeli occupation forces opened fire on them while they were working off the coast of central Gaza, according to local sources. The incident comes amid ongoing Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement and continued military attacks across the Gaza Strip.
Local sources identified the victim as 16-year-old fisherman Mohammed Mousa Abu Jiyab, who was killed while fishing off the coast of Deir al-Balah. Another fisherman, Mohammed Atef Al-Aqraa, sustained critical injuries in the same attack.
Separately, two Palestinians injured in an Israeli strike on the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City on Saturday passed away from their wounds and were taken to Al-Shifa Hospital, according to a local source.
Israeli occupation forces also continued military operations across the enclave on Sunday. According to local reports, troops fired live ammunition, smoke bombs, illumination flares, and artillery shells north of the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza. Israeli artillery additionally shelled northern Gaza and the eastern areas of Khan Younis in the south.
The latest incidents follow a deadly Saturday in which 10 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip.
Over recent days, the Israeli military has intensified its offensive throughout Gaza, carrying out daily attacks in multiple areas while expanding its control over additional territory in the enclave. The escalation has drawn criticism amid continued silence from the U.S. peace envoy and the United States, which acted as a guarantor of the ceasefire agreement.
Israeli occupation forces have continued to violate the ceasefire through air and artillery attacks targeting areas sheltering displaced civilians, as well as demolition operations and destruction within the “Yellow Line” zone. Restrictions on the movement of goods, humanitarian aid, and travel also remain in place.
According to data released by the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the number of Palestinians killed since the ceasefire took effect on October 10 has risen to 960, with 2,984 others injured. The ministry also reported 782 bodies recovered from previously inaccessible areas during the same period.
The ministry stated that the overall toll from Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza since October 7, 2023, has reached approximately 72,970 deaths and 173,092 injuries.
