The Palestinian Civil Defence in Gaza has reported that 20 people have been confirmed dead following an Israeli airstrike. The attack targeted a group of individuals who had gathered to pray near the ruins of a mosque in the Shati refugee camp in Gaza City.
The airstrike occurred during the evening (Dhuhur) prayers, a time when many residents of the camp were engaged in worship. The mosque, already in ruins from a previous Israeli airstrike, was a site of solace and community gathering for the residents.
A spokesperson for the Palestinian Civil Defence released a statement confirming the casualties and indicating that many others remain in critical condition.
