Palestinian Administrative Detainees to Start Mass Hunger Strike

Palestinian administrative detainees in the Israeli occupation jails decided on Friday, 5 May 2023 to engage in an open-ended hunger strike during the upcoming days in protest against Israel’s crime against detainee Khader Adnan.

In a statement, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Committee affirmed that the hunger strike is a collective, effective, and accomplished weapon to protest the Israeli illegal punitive measures.

The Palestinian detainee Khader Adnan died on Tuesday in the Israeli jails due to deliberate Israeli medical negligence after an 86-day-long hunger strike in protest against his illegal administrative detention.

The Palestinian detainee Adnan hailed from the Palestinian village of Arraba near Jenin. He launched his 86-day-long hunger strike immediately after he was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces on 5 February.

The father of nine — his youngest is just 18 months old — was detained by the Israeli occupation authorities twelve times and spent eight years in Israeli jails, mostly in administrative detention.

Israel’s illegal policy of administrative detention is a pre-emptive measure that allows the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for lengthy periods of time based on disclosed allegations that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.

Israeli occupation is currently holding more than 1,000 Palestinian detainees without charge or trial, the highest number since 2003, according to the Israeli human rights group HaMoked.

Palestinian detainees have constantly resorted to hunger strikes as a method to oppose their administrative detention, demanding an end to this illegal policy that violates international law and Human rights accords.

The Israeli occupation uses deliberate medical negligence as a common punitive measure against Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails.

73 Palestinian prisoners lost their lives inside Israeli occupation prisons since 1967 due to a systematic policy of deliberate medical negligence, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Club.
