The Israeli municipality of Jerusalem is rapidly continuing the building of an illegal settlement in the south of the city, most of which is located beyond the Green Line, therefore cutting the connection between the occupied Jerusalem and Bethlehem in the West Bank.
The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation Kan 11 reported that the occupation municipality is quickly constructing a new settlement, emphasizing its political importance as it blocks the connection between East Jerusalem and Bethlehem and impedes a contiguous Palestinian state in the future.
The new settlement was mentioned in the report to have over 1,200 residential buildings in it, connecting the illegal settlement of HaMatos near Beit Safafa to Har Homa in Jabal Abu Ghneim.
Statistics from the Peace Now movement indicate that there are 666,000 settlers residing in 145 settlements and 140 outposts in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, all of which are situated in territories that have been occupied by Israel.
