The Palestinian Prisoners Club (PPC) reported, on Tuesday, February 8, 2023, that the number of Palestinian administrative detainees in the Israeli occupation prisons has reached more than 900, including the detainee, Raghad Al-Fani, and five children.
The Prisoners Club stated that the Palestinian administrative detainees are mainly held in three prisons: 379 in Ofer, 345 in Al-Naqab, and 160 in Megiddo, while the rest of them are in other prisons.
It pointed out that the Israeli occupation issued more than 12,000 administrative detention orders over the past nine years. The highest rate was during the past year, with 2,409 orders.
The club indicated that the oldest of the administrative detainees is the detainee Jamal Al-Nisr, 76 years old, indicating that 80% of the administrative detainees are ex-detainees, and some of them spent years in prisons.
It added that more than 80 administrative detainees continue their boycott of the Israeli occupation courts, rejecting the policy of administrative detention against the Palestinians.
The occupation did not exclude the Palestinian elderly, children, women, and the sick from administrative detention, as in the case of the prisoner Abd al-Basit Maatan from the town of Barqa, east of Ramallah. Despite his colon cancer and his urgent need for health follow-up, it re-detained him shortly after his release.
The occupation courts recently renewed administrative detention orders for a group of Palestinian detainees who have suffered administrative detention for years, including Nidal Abu Aker, Thaer Halahleh, Ghassan Zawahra, and Saleh Al-Jaidi.
The Palestinian female detainee, Shorouq Al-Badan, from Bethlehem, has also been facing administrative detention since 2019, and she is currently in Damon Prison.
