The head of the Israeli opposition and former Israeli prime minister, Yair Lapid, attacked Sunday, January 29, the extremist national security minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, holding him responsible for the shooting attack in Jerusalem that took place last Friday, killing 7 Israeli settlers and wounding 10 others.
In an interview with Ynet radio, Yair Lapid commented on Ben Gvir’s accusations against judicial counsel, Ghali Behrav Mayara, of delaying the approval of closing the house of the Palestinian martyr, Khairi Alqam, in preparation for its demolition.
Lapid said, “Ben Gvir’s specialty is to search for the guilty, far from himself,” addressing him on the radio, “You are responsible. Take responsibility instead of searching all day for someone to blame.”
Lapid continued, “This man does not know how to do anything. He lives on TikTok and is looking for someone to blame.”
He noted that members of the current Israeli government “blame the leftists and the judiciary, and do everything except do their job.”
Itamar Ben Gvir responded via the same radio to Lapid, saying, “It is amazing that he accuses me of being responsible for the attack after 3 weeks in office.”
Ben Gvir accused the previous government, which was headed by Naftali Bennett for a year and a half, that it left a black hole in the Ministry of National Security, destroying the security of Israeli settlers, and causing the escalation of Palestinian resistance actions.
At dawn today, Israeli occupation forces closed the house of martyr Khairy Alqam, who carried out the Jerusalem operation last Friday, in the Al-Tur neighborhood, east of occupied Jerusalem.
It is worth noting that the Palestinian resistance operation in Jerusalem came in response to the massacre committed by the occupation forces in Jenin against Palestinian civilians, killing 9 Palestinians and injuring dozens of others.
In a related context, the Hebrew Channel 7 mentioned, “The Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, will demand, at the government meeting, the legalization of 7 settlement outposts in the West Bank, and the improvement of procedures for other settlements in response to the Jerusalem operation.”
While the retired Israeli commissioner, Aryeh Amit, described him, saying, “The Ben Gvir gang will bring disaster to all of us.”
