Palestinian Nael Al-Barghouthi, the oldest prisoner in Israeli prisons, entered on Sunday, November 20, his 43rd consecutive year of incarceration behind bars in Israeli prisons.
Palestinian prisoners Society PPS reported that Al-Barghouthi was arrested for the first time in 1978, and he was released in 2011 as part of the Wafaa Al-Ahrar swap deal.
In a statement, the Prisoner Society stated that prisoner Al-Barghouthi refused to deliver any messages on the 43 anniversary of his arrest and he only said, “Silence speaks louder.”
Israeli occupation forces re-arrested him three years later in 2014, the PPS pointed out, adding that 48 prisoners who were released under the Wafaa Al-Ahrar deal are held currently in Israeli prisons.
The PPS added that up to 300 prisoners served more than 20 years in Israeli prisons, which poses clear evidence of Israeli crimes against Palestinian prisoners.
