Numerous faith-based, civil rights, and progressive organizations in the United States have voiced solidarity with university students protesting against American backing for Israel amid the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Among the endorsing groups are the Working Families Party, IfNotNow Movement, Sunrise Movement, Movement for Black Lives, and Gen-Z for Change, who collectively praised the student demonstrators in a joint statement released on Monday.
“We commend the students who are exercising their right to protest peacefully despite an overwhelming atmosphere of pressure, intimidation, and retaliation, to raise awareness about Israel’s assault on Gaza – with US weapons and funding,” stated the organizations.
The statement, endorsed by nearly 190 groups, underscores the escalating support from the progressive sector for the campus protest movement, now entering its third week, despite crackdowns by university administrations and law enforcement agencies.
In addition to the signatories mentioned, the Arab American Institute, MPower Change Action Fund, Greenpeace USA, and Justice Democrats also lent their support.
The ongoing protests, marked by demonstrators establishing encampments on their campuses, have garnered significant attention both domestically and internationally, propelling the movement to the forefront of public discourse.
Students are demanding transparency regarding their universities’ investments and calling for an end to affiliations with companies linked to the Israeli occupation.
