After Trump’s greenlight, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged to build new settlement for illegal settlers evacuated from Amona outpost in west Bank.
“I believe with all my heart that [Netanyahu] will not back down from the agreement that he signed,” Yossi Dagan, the head of the settlement regional council in occupied West Bank, told Israeli TV Channel 2.
The US Vice President Mike Pence, a member of Netanyahu’s delegation to Washington said: “We [will] formulate as soon as possible the creation of a mechanism to discuss with the White House construction in the settlements, with the intention of reaching an understanding on this matter.”
Pence’s remarks came after meeting with Netanyahu in Washington on Thursday as both agreed that settlement is not an obstacle ahead of achieving peace deal with the Palestinians.
Netanyahu responded to Trump’s request to rein in settlement activity on Wednesday by promising that Israel and the US would try to coordinate their positions on building settlements in the West Bank, “so that we do not bump into each other on this [issue] every time.”
Last week, the residents of the illegal settlement of Amona voted to move to the Geulat Tzion illegal outpost, located in the illegal Shiloh settlement bloc.
While Amona was built on privately owned Palestinian land, Geulat Tzion is built on a state Palestinian land. As there has been no Palestinian state, Israel considers all state Palestinian lands as owned by the state of Israel.
According to the deal with the illegal settlers, and after the American greenlight, the new settlement is to be set up within two months.
