Days of Palestine, Israeli media –An Israeli occupation soldiers quitted military service because Israeli army takes Palestinians as training targets.
The Israeli occupation army soldier Yaron Kaplan, 21, from Naha section, has turned from a combatant soldier to conscientious objector, Israeli newspaper Haaretz said on Monday.
Haaretz titled its article about Kaplan as “from an Israeli combat soldier to conscientious objector.” It said that after two years in the Israeli occupation forces, Kaplan, “is declaring himself a conscientious objector.”
“From the moment I started my training in the army, I recognised how violent this place is,” he told the Israeli leading newspaper. “It was a totally traumatic experience.”
“Every time we do training, we look for a Palestinian to shot. One time we shot Mohamed and another time we shot Ahmed,” he said.
Kaplan said that he joined Nahal immediately after he had graduated from the military college, but now he decided to quit.
He referred the reason for quitting the army for failing to change the “violent nature of the army.” He said he cannot be a “messenger” for this army.
Kpalan said he would not return to army service after the Israeli Passover, but he would hand himself over to the army to be imprisoned for being disobedient.
“I recognise very well the repercussions of this measure,” he said, “but this undoubtedly the right step. The conscious price I paid during my service is heavier on me than more suffering if I go for another year in service.”
