Two Canadian female deputies called on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to take effective measures to stop the Israeli violations against the Palestinians and Palestinian human right organazations.
Representative Heather McPherson indicated that the UN report issued on June revealed alarming findings: increased discrimination and ongoing human rights abuses as Israel clearly has no intention of ending the illegal occupation.
She added that Human rights are human rights everywhere, stressing that the results of the report should be taken into consideration by the Canadian government. She ended her speech wondering, “Why won’t the government even consider this United Nations report and revisit its policy towards Palestine and Israel.”
For her part, Jenny Kwan introduced a petition calling on Canada to take concrete action against the Israeli occupation authorities’ continued harassment and criminalization of human rights defenders and civil society organizations in Palestine.
A number Canadian politicians, human rights organizations, and Arab and Palestinian activists interacted with these calls. The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) shared the video of Rep. Heather McPherson’s speech commenting, ”Canada cannot denigrate multilateral institutions and the work of independent studies if we truly believe in human rights and true peace for everyone.“
During the liberal government led by Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Parliament witnessed positions in support of Arab and Islamic issues.
