Days of Palestine, West Bank –Israeli occupation announced on Thursday evening it would close occupied West Bank during Jewish Yom Kippur holiday.
Jewish Yom Kippur holiday starts on Thursday night and lasts until Saturday night. It coincides with the Muslims’ holiday, when Palestinians are in urgent need to freedom of movement to exchange visits with relatives.
Military Israeli authorities said in a statement that the closure of the West Bank would start at Thursday midnight and last until Saturday midnight
The closure would affect the Gaza Strip as the Israeli crossings with the Strip would also be closed during the Jewish holiday.
According to the statement, the only possible exceptions that could be made would be for humanitarian and medical needs.
However, the closure of government offices during the same time could present difficulties to those seeking to utilise the exceptions.
The Israel occupation routinely seals the Palestinian territories during Jewish holidays, depriving Palestinians of the freedom of movement and undermining exchange of family visits with relatives inside the occupied Palestine.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian authorities announced the full closure of the Rafah Crossing, the main terminal for the Gazans that keeps them in contact with the outside world.
Egyptian officials said the closure would start on Friday and last until Wednesday.
