185 Starvation Deaths in Gaza in August Alone

DaysofPal – Gaza’s health ministry has confirmed that 185 people died of hunger and malnutrition in August alone, warning that famine is rapidly worsening in the besieged enclave.

In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry said more than 70 people, including 12 children, have starved to death since global monitors formally declared a famine in Gaza.

Over the past 24 hours, 13 additional deaths were recorded, three of them children, bringing the total death toll from hunger to 361, including 130 children.

The ministry highlighted that more than 43,000 children under the age of five are suffering from malnutrition, alongside 55,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women. Two-thirds of pregnant women are now anemic, the highest levels recorded in years.

Despite the deepening crisis, aid reaching Gaza remains far below what is needed. Gaza’s Government Media Office said that only 534 trucks entered the Strip over the past five days, a fraction of the 3,000 required.

Many of those trucks were looted before reaching those in need. Over the past 35 days, just 3,188 trucks, about 15 percent of the minimum 21,000 required, have entered Gaza.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned that families are being repeatedly displaced by Israeli shelling and evacuation orders, while aid routes remain closed. The agency stressed that reopening crossings and lifting the blockade is vital to allow food and medicine into Gaza and prevent an even deeper catastrophe.
