DaysofPal- The World Health Organization has called for the immediate removal of Israeli restrictions on the entry of medicines and essential medical supplies into the Gaza Strip, warning that urgent action is needed to rebuild the territory’s devastated healthcare system.
In a post on the platform X, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus highlighted the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. They stressed the need to ensure timely and unhindered access to life-saving resources.
Ghebreyesus noted that the organization has supported the establishment of a new family health center in northern Gaza, where access to medical services remains extremely limited, and many residents are unable to receive care.
He said the center is helping bring healthcare services directly to communities in need, but emphasized that overall health needs across the territory remain “immense.”
He urged authorities to allow the immediate entry of medicines and essential supplies without delay to enable large-scale restoration of health services.
He also called for the removal of bureaucratic obstacles hindering the delivery of critical medical resources and for broader access to Gaza.
The appeal comes amid ongoing humanitarian challenges following nearly two years of war, which began in October 2023.
Despite a ceasefire agreement, conditions in Gaza remain dire, with continued restrictions affecting the flow of food, medicine, and humanitarian aid, as well as ongoing violence contributing to casualties and strain on the healthcare system.
Health officials warn that without swift intervention, the already fragile medical infrastructure in Gaza risks further collapse, leaving hundreds of thousands without adequate care.
