French Outrage Erupts After Settler Assault on Nun in Jerusalem
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

DaysofPal- A filmed assault by an Israeli settler on a French nun in occupied Jerusalem has sparked widespread anger in France, rapidly escalating into a major public issue dominating social media platforms and media discussions.

The video, which captured the moment of the attack, triggered sharp condemnation and raised growing questions about whether the incident was an isolated act or part of a broader pattern of violence.

According to Father Olivier Béquignon, director of the French Biblical and Archaeological School of Jerusalem, the victim is a nun and researcher affiliated with the institution.

He described the attack as “unjustified,” condemning the sectarian violence and calling for swift and decisive action to hold those responsible accountable.

He stressed that confronting hatred is a collective responsibility requiring coordinated efforts.

The French Consulate in Jerusalem also condemned the assault, wishing the nun a speedy recovery and affirming that it is closely monitoring developments.

The consulate emphasized the importance of bringing the perpetrator to justice.

In France, reactions from political and media figures varied in tone but converged on condemnation and demands for accountability.

Member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan described the incident as an attack on a French citizen in Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, MEP Nathalie Loiseau labeled the assault as “cowardly,” noting that it targeted a religious figure who posed no threat and questioning the motives behind it.

Journalist Charles Enderlin placed the incident within a broader context of anti-Christian attacks, reporting that the victim was taken to the hospital and that the attacker had been detained, combining on-the-ground details with wider analysis.

Activists and researchers echoed concerns that the assault may not be an isolated incident, arguing it reflects a rise in extremist religious currents and increasing targeting of religious minorities in Jerusalem, including both Christians and Muslims.

Overall, the reaction highlights a clear intersection between moral condemnation and political interpretation.

The incident is being viewed not only as a standalone act of violence but also as a test of the seriousness of efforts to confront extremism and violence, both through legal accountability and broader public discourse.
