DaysofPal- The Palestinian Center for Prisoner Advocacy (PCPA) has raised alarms about serious health threats facing Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, particularly due to a widespread scabies outbreak.
In a statement to media outlets, the PCPA expressed “deep concern” over the ongoing reports of scabies spreading among thousands of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, which reportedly lack basic living conditions.
The PCPA claims that the Israeli prison service is deliberately transforming these facilities into life-threatening environments through systematic medical neglect.
The organization highlighted a series of punitive measures imposed on prisoners, such as denying basic human rights like bathing, cutting off water supplies, and confiscating personal hygiene items like soap and shampoo.
Prisoners are reportedly also prevented from getting haircuts or shaving and are deprived of personal clothing, forcing them to wear wet clothes after washing.
These actions are seen as deliberate efforts to break prisoners’ resilience and identity, leading to a slow and silent demise.
Moreover, the PCPA has called upon international bodies such as the World Health Organization, Médecins Sans Frontières, and the International Committee of the Red Cross to provide immediate medical and humanitarian aid to address this growing crisis.
The statement ended with a poignant reminder that “humanity as a whole is facing an ethical and moral test” in dealing with the situation of more than ten thousand prisoners in Israeli jails.
