DayofPal—A US congressman has introduced new legislation aimed at conditioning American military aid to Israel on compliance with ceasefire agreements and protections for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
Representative Sean Casten unveiled the Ceasefire Compliance Act on Monday, which would prohibit the use of US-origin weapons in Palestinian territories if Israel violates the October 10, 2025 ceasefire, pursues annexation, or fails to prevent settler violence.
“The United States provides Israel with significant military support, and it is essential that this assistance aligns with American values, law, and interests,” Casten said in a statement.
“Compliance with the ceasefire, addressing settler violence, and rejecting annexation in the West Bank are foundational to that alignment.”
The legislation establishes an end-use monitoring body and congressional oversight mechanisms to enforce the restrictions.
Importantly, defensive missile systems such as Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and Arrow 3 would remain exempt, ensuring Israel retains its ability to defend itself.
“This bill does not deny Israel the right to defend itself,” Casten emphasized. “It sets guardrails to help sustain the ceasefire and create a credible path toward long-term peace, including security for Israelis and self-determination for Palestinians.”
The bill is co-sponsored by a bipartisan group of representatives, including Madeleine Dean, Veronica Escobar, Chris Deluzio, and Betty McCollum, among others.
Recent reports indicate that Israeli forces have continued military operations and raids in the West Bank, while violations of the ceasefire in Gaza have fueled international concern.
If passed, the Ceasefire Compliance Act would be the first US law to tie military aid directly to Israel’s adherence to specific ceasefire obligations and human rights standards, signaling heightened congressional scrutiny of American support in the region.
The measure is part of a broader US debate over balancing strategic alliance commitments with legal and ethical accountability in war zones.
