Following last Wednesday, September 28, 2022 extensive Israeli military attack on the camp, which resulted in killing 4 Palestinians and 44 injuries, including Palestinian refugees, Adam Bouloukos, the Director of UNRWA’s West Bank operations, paid a visit to Jenin refugee camp in the north of the West Bank.
Bullets struck UNRWA clinic while it was occupied by patients and personnel, causing enormous damage. About 35,000 individuals receive treatments from the facility. For the day, all UNRWA buildings in the camp, including clinics and schools, were evacuated.
“I saw firsthand the degree of the harm the most recent Israeli military action produced. The clinic and UNRWA school were places Bouloukos visited, and he noticed dread and worry in the eyes of the students there. He then met with the camp’s Popular Services Committee.
In a statement, he declared: “The level of violence in Jenin camp and across the West Bank is the highest we have seen in years. Many Palestinians, including refugees, were killed or injured. Violence only brings loss of life, grief for families and instability. All parties to the conflict should protect civilians, including Palestine refugees. ”
He added that UN staff and facilities and civilian infrastructure must be kept out of harm’s way. He specifically call on the Israeli Security Forces to limit the use of excessive force and spare loss of civilian life in Jenin and across the West Bank,” he said.
