DaysofPal-The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, has warned that Israeli violence in the occupied West Bank has reached “record levels,” amid a sharp escalation in settler attacks carried out under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Lazzarini described the Israeli crimes in the West Bank as a silent war that has not received sufficient coverage.
He said that since October 2023, violence in the occupied West Bank has reached unprecedented levels, with more than 1,000 Palestinians killed, nearly a quarter of them children.
Lazzarini added that tens of thousands of Palestinians remain displaced more than a year after the Israeli occupation forces launched their so-called Iron Wall operation, describing it as the largest displacement campaign since 1967.
He noted that Palestinian homes are now being gradually demolished to prevent residents from returning.
“While global attention has focused on Gaza, the blatant disregard for international humanitarian law in the West Bank has become normalized,” Lazzarini said.
Since the start of the Israeli genocidal war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation, through its military forces and settlers, has intensified crimes in the West Bank, including killings, home demolitions, forced displacement of Palestinians, and settlement expansion.
Over the past more than two years, this escalation has resulted in the killing of 1,110 Palestinians, the injury of approximately 11,500 others, and the arrest of more than 21,000 people.
Settler violence has continued unabated, with Palestinian communities facing constant intimidation, forcible displacement from their lands, and the destruction of their livelihoods, amid the prevailing culture of impunity.
