DaysofPal — The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) released a harrowing statement on Monday, revealing that approximately 50,000 Palestinian children have been killed or wounded since the beginning of Israel’s ongoing assault on the Gaza Strip.
Describing the situation as “one of the worst humanitarian disasters in modern history,” UNRWA warned that Gaza has become uninhabitable for children, with basic services having completely collapsed and humanitarian conditions worsening daily.
According to the agency, children in Gaza are not only falling victim to airstrikes and military attacks. Still, they are also dying slow deaths from hunger, disease, and untreated injuries, exacerbated by a suffocating blockade and critical shortages of food, medicine, and clean water.
UNRWA further reported that its schools and shelters, once considered safe havens for displaced families, have been repeatedly bombed, resulting in the death and injury of hundreds of children, even inside these supposed places of refuge.
The psychological toll is equally devastating. More than one million children are now suffering from acute trauma due to sustained bombardment, the loss of loved ones, the destruction of homes, the collapse of education, and severe deprivation of basic needs.
In its statement, UNRWA urgently appealed to the international community to act immediately, stressing that continued inaction in the face of these atrocities amounts to complicity in the erasure of an entire generation of Palestinian children.
