DaysofPal – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has raised alarms over the ongoing challenges facing Gaza, warning that continued violence, displacement, and restrictions imposed by Israeli occupation forces are severely hindering the delivery of essential humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave.
UNRWA highlighted that the ceasefire, which came into effect on October 10, 2025, remains fragile and frequently violated, leaving the humanitarian situation dire. Since the truce began, at least 601 Palestinians have been killed and 1,607 injured, according to agency reports.
The agency emphasized the urgent need for a sustained and genuine ceasefire in Gaza, noting that without it, aid efforts cannot effectively reach those in need. UNRWA reaffirmed its mission to provide support and protection to Palestinian refugees until a just and permanent solution to their plight is achieved.
The agency also stressed the extreme conditions faced by children in Gaza, calling for their right to education to be guaranteed to help them build a future. Education in the territory relies heavily on UNRWA services, which the agency remains committed to maintaining despite immense challenges.
Official estimates indicate that nearly 40,000 children in Gaza have lost one or both parents due to the Israeli war on the territory. UNICEF reports that 17,000 children are now entirely orphaned, describing the situation as the largest orphan crisis in modern history. Children under 18 make up roughly half of Gaza’s population, close to one million, highlighting the broad social impact of the ongoing conflict.
The agency emphasized that it continues to carry out this mission and must be allowed to do so until such a solution is reached.
Israel and the US administration have led sustained campaigns against UNRWA throughout the war on Gaza and in its aftermath. Observers say the objective is to dismantle the agency, which serves as a primary lifeline for Palestinians living under siege in the devastated enclave.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini has issued repeated warnings on the matter. In one statement, he said that dismantling UNRWA has become one of the objectives of Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza.
