DaysofPal- The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reported that, on average, one Palestinian child has been killed by Israeli occupation forces every week in the occupied West Bank since January 2025, highlighting the growing toll of children killed in the region.
Speaking at a press conference in Geneva on Tuesday, UNICEF spokesperson James Elder said that at least 70 Palestinian children have been killed during this period, including in East Jerusalem.
He added that approximately 850 children have also been injured during the same timeframe at the hands of Israeli occupation forces.
Elder stated that 93% of the children killed were killed by Israeli forces, with most of the fatalities caused by live ammunition.
He described the situation as one in which children are “paying an unbearable price” due to intensified military operations and attacks across the West Bank.
“Since January 2025, at least one Palestinian child has been killed every week in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem,” Elder said.
UNICEF called on the Israeli occupation to take “immediate and decisive measures” to prevent further killing and maiming of Palestinian children and to protect essential infrastructure, including homes, schools, and water sources, in accordance with international law.
The organization also urged influential member states to use their leverage to ensure compliance with international humanitarian and human rights law.
The West Bank has seen a surge in Israeli violence against the Palestinians over the past year, raising international concern over the worsening humanitarian situation, particularly for children.
