DaysofPal- The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached catastrophic proportions, with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) warning that families are now unable to provide even basic food for their children.
Tess Ingram, UNICEF spokesperson, cautioned that famine is tightening its grip on Gaza City and could spread to central areas of the Strip within weeks if urgent action is not taken.
Ingram described the situation as “catastrophic,” noting that Gaza’s families are “desperate for food and water.”
She said that Parents have approached her in tears, asking, “Will food arrive in time? Will our children survive?”
She stressed that the collapse of services and relentless Israeli bombardment have pushed residents, especially in eastern and northern Gaza, into a constant state of fear and displacement, with many now living in makeshift tents along the coast.
Hospital administrators have reported a surge in children suffering from fractures, burns, and wounds due to intensified Israeli attacks in recent days.
Medical and humanitarian workers, as well as journalists, have long warned of impending famine. Still, Ingram lamented that “nothing has changed,” and families now face a grim reality with little international pressure to alter the situation.
UNICEF emphasized that children urgently need food, water, and medicine. Hundreds of trucks must enter Gaza daily to meet basic needs, yet this is not happening. Only 44 of the 92 UNICEF-supported outpatient nutrition centers remain operational, and hospitals are overwhelmed, with neonatal units operating at double or more capacity.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli genocide has caused immense suffering: 64,455 Palestinians killed, 162,776 injured, and over 9,000 missing.
Among the dead are 387 people, including 138 children, who have starved to death. Hundreds of thousands remain displaced and at risk of famine.
