The spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres warned Tuesday, June 13, 2023, against the imminent danger of forced evictions against Palestinians in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem.
The UN spokesman said at least 970 Palestinians, including 424 children, in East Jerusalem, are at risk of forced eviction by the Israeli occupation.
As well, the Palestinian Ministry of Jerusalem Affairs said that the forced displacement practiced by Israeli occupation forces in the holy city amounts to a war crime, which requires urgent international intervention.
This came in a statement by the Ministry, today, Monday, against the Israeli occupation’s vow to vacate a Palestinian house of its owners who have lived there for more than 5 decades in East Jerusalem.
It said the forced displacement decision aims to deport the Palestinians under the Israeli apartheid system that controls all aspects of their lives.
Separately, the Israeli occupation revealed today a plan to build 4,000 new illegal settlement units on Palestinian lands across the occupied West Bank.
On June 8, the Special Representative of the European Union for Human Rights, Eamonn Gilmour, stressed that Israeli settlements, Palestinian home demolitions, and forced displacement of Palestinians are totally illegal.
Over 600,000 Israeli settlers live in over 230 settlements built since 1967, which are illegal under international law.
