DaysofPal- The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights has warned of the risk of ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank as violence and displacement of Palestinians intensify.
In a statement, the UN human rights office said deadly Israeli attacks in Gaza have raised serious concerns that civilians may have been deliberately targeted, citing rising casualty figures and widespread destruction across residential areas.
The office added that the systematic destruction of neighborhoods, combined with restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid, suggests attempts to alter the demographic reality of Gaza by forcing residents into displacement and preventing their return.
In the West Bank, the office pointed to arbitrary arrests, torture, and home demolitions as tools used to subdue the Palestinian population, warning that such policies are fueling tensions and undermining prospects for stability.
The UN human rights body stressed that achieving justice for Palestinian victims must form the foundation of any future reconstruction process in Gaza, calling for respect for international humanitarian law, protection of civilians, and unimpeded humanitarian access.
